Christopher's Law reintroduced into the U.S. House of Representatives!!!!

The Student Loan Protection Act of 2013 (Christopher's Law) - H.R.2961: recommends the following:

  • Ensuring private education lenders clearly and concisely define borrower and cosigner obligations;

  • Requiring the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau-CFPB to publish model forms outlining the obligations;

  • Explaining the terms “cosigner” and "default" as they pertain to severe injury or death of student borrowers or cosigners;

  • Providing information on the conditions required to discharge federal or private student loans due to the severe injury or death of student borrowers or cosigners.


Current House sponsors of the bill are Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ) and Rep. Jon Runyan (R-NJ), with Rep. Spencer Bachus (AL) agreeing to be a cosponsor. 

Due to the recent passing of Sen. Frank Lautenberg, Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) has agreed to introduce a companion bill in the Senate, with Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) agreeing to be a cosponsor.
